summer series #4 – ashton

Ashton, the pup belonging to Jenny Clark and Jason DeMarco of Atlanta.

An excerpt from his bio: I dumped an entire tub of Parmesan on him by accident one and I have never seen an animal so wild with joy. Now he is forever under foot when I cook with cheese.

Summer Series #1 – Banana

This summer I will be working on the illustration style I’ve chosen to pursue. I’ve put out a call for dog bios and their accompanying photos. From those I will choose one dog randomly each week and complete a piece for the series.

This week features Banana, a super sweet Pibble owned by Priya Priani in Atlanta, GA.

As usual final piece follows process. Enjoy 🙂

JR

Recently I went to visit my mom in New Hampshire. While there, I showed her some of the illustration techniques I’d been working on. This piece is a commissioned “portrait,” for a couple in Texas, of their dog JR. After getting a profile of JR’s personality, it was clear he liked to run. The images work you through the process to the final piece.  dog_1 dog_2 dog_3 dog_4 dog_5

Mom & Dad

So on May 26th, my father unexpectedly passed away. He had been fighting stage 4 lung cancer for a year and was beating it. Friday the 16th he was diagnosed with pneumonia and it was a strain that was completely resistant to all anti-biotics. He went quickly and peacefully 10 days later.

I am an only child and my family is extremely close. My mom and dad had been together for 53 years and married for 46. She is being very brave, but I know how this has and will affect her for the rest of her life.

I decided to do a piece for her that represented the love they shared. The first version seemed like the type was a little too strong…so I redid the entire piece to represent more of a calm feeling. The final piece is the first image. The original is beneath it.

I used a photo of my parents from 1971 when they closed on their first house. The balloon is there because it floated into my dad’s room when he was in hospice and hovered over the 2 of them. (*nobody knew where it came from)
